What you eat could be taking away your harmony

The harmony in times of Covid-19 is not an unreachable mountain. For currents like Ayurveda, yoga, or Trophology, good nutrition is the straight path towards it. If not, ask yourself, what is the harmony of a body if not its health? And what is harmony if not maintaining balance, despite the external events over which we have no control?Hence the importance of Trophology. This rare word is a branch of natural nutrition that studies the biochemistry of the body and the reactions that foods provoke in it. And when talking about stress –you guessed it, it's a chemical reaction of the organism– it's vital to delve into its study. According to Majo Ortiz, founder of the Mexican College of Trophology, there is nothing more real than the phrase (we are what we eat). “Our cells are a summary, among other things, of the foods we consume,” she states. Giving something stressful to our organs is robbing the organism of peace. It is true: eating is an instinctive act. You don’t need to study to know the best way to tackle a good hamburger. Eating wisely is indeed an art. Majo explains that the magic lies in selecting our foods correctly; preferably, they should be “alive.” And it’s not that we go hunting or take a bite out of a cow, but rather ensuring that our food is 100% natural: that it has the power to decompose; that it has no chemical components that alter what nature has already created in perfection. The live foods offered by supermarkets, however, are the least. Unlike in previous times, it no longer sounds absurd to look for “organic ingredients” because most are modified. From the selection of foods, we can harmonize our body to finally free ourselves from the chains of stress. Processed foods overstimulate us. Excess sugar provides momentary pleasure and then a crash. Majo, on the other hand, recommends choosing foods high in vitamin C such as berries, lemon, orange, and guava, which will help reduce inflammation in the body. “An inflamed organ is a stressed organ,” she assures. Foods like ginger and turmeric infused in water or added to meals will yield good results. Sunflower seeds will restore minerals to the body while yogurt with bulgars will provide B12 to give energy and freshness to the mind.Majo explains that the most difficult art is combining foods. And no, not everything fits in a jar if you know how to arrange it. Ayurveda explained this topic centuries ago. The difficulty may lie in making effective combinations, ones that the body can easily break down and where the breakdown of carbohydrates is straightforward. If this doesn't happen, toxins are generated, and thus the body becomes stressed. For example, Majo explains that adding lemon to a potato causes its carbohydrates not to break down properly. Instead, a good food combination would be mixing green foods with some good fats like almonds, walnuts, or avocado and including complex carbohydrates like potatoes. The third point to free ourselves from stress through food is preparing them correctly. The key is to be aware that every technique, every ingredient, and every decision when cooking can have consequences on the organism. She recommends eating “as natural as possible. As raw as possible. Without too many additives. This way, we will be consuming the process of photosynthesis that occurs in plants. We would be taking in the sun, water, and air that each vegetable and fruit absorbed.”The correct selection, combination, and preparation of elements can prevent the accumulation of toxins that ultimately disrupt the body. An unbalanced body is more prone to being irritable and feeling tired in the medium term and to getting sick in the long run. That’s why regular detoxification supervised by an expert is advisable. Some foods that help detoxify the body are fermented foods, such as kombucha or Korean kimchi, and probiotics that produce good biochemical reactions for the organism. If we eat clean, meaning, without excess processed ingredients, sugars, sodiums, and flours, mental and physical health will be viable.Add to conscious eating rest, meditation, yoga, and some cardio to oxygenate the organism. Laughter and positive emotions also contribute. When the elements come together, our body reveals its self-healing and self-curing power. Harmony appears because it is natural for the body to be well. We shouldn’t obstruct it ourselves.
