You might think that the microwave is only good for heating food or quickly making tea; if so, you don't know what you're missing.
This appliance could make your life much easier, and maybe you didn't know it. Pay attention and take note of these useful tricks.
Crispy breadsticks every time
If you left the bag of rolls or crackers open and they are no longer crispy, put them in the microwave, and in a few seconds, they will be fresh again.
Sterilize canning jars
To avoid boiling jars and save a lot of time putting them one by one in water, just fill each jar with two fingers of clean water and put it in the microwave for two minutes. Never put more than six jars at a time.
Wet salt
When salt gets damp, it is impossible to make it flow through the holes of the shaker. Put a handful of this salt on a plate and microwave it for a few seconds; it will be perfect again.
Drying herbs
Forty seconds on high power will be enough to dry your own herbs at home. This is very useful as they retain their aroma and flavor perfectly.
More orange juice
If you need to squeeze many oranges or any citrus, put the fruit in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. Its skin will soften, and you'll get much more juice.
No tears with onions
Cut the ends of the onion and microwave it for 30 seconds on high; you won't shed a single tear when you slice it.
Reviving brown sugar
It's typical; you try to use brown sugar in a recipe and when you realize, it's a compact block that's useless for cooking. To revive it, add a few drops of water inside its packaging and microwave it on medium power for 20 seconds.
Hot plates for longer
To keep dishes hot for longer, sprinkle a little water on the plates you will serve. Thirty seconds in the microwave on high power is enough.
Candied honey
To avoid this problem, put the jar in the microwave—making sure it has no metal—and give it 20 or 30 seconds. Stir well and repeat if necessary until it becomes liquid again.
Disinfected cutting boards
All plastic cutting boards that can go in the microwave can be disinfected by rubbing them with a little lemon and microwaving them for a minute. You will eliminate many bacteria and reduce the risk of illness.
