Make the most of what you have at home, save money, and have fun. Sometimes, we just need small changes to make really big things happen. Many say that ‘a good judge starts at home,’ and with these tips, it will be the perfect opportunity to put our creativity into practice, while also setting an example and helping the environment. For various reasons, it is not uncommon to find glass bottles in our homes; often we think they are completely useless and they go straight to the trash, a common mistake among many, because with a little effort, these bottles can even help us save some money. Next, we will give you some tips to turn those bottles into… glasses! The main goal is to cut the bottle into two pieces. For this, we will need the following tools: - Glass bottle. - Thick cotton thread. - 96% alcohol. - Bucket with cold water. - Lighter. The first thing we need to do is soak a piece of cotton thread in alcohol (it should be long enough to tie around the bottle). Then, we wrap it around the bottle at the height where we want to make the cut and carefully light the alcohol-soaked thread; we wait for it to go out. As soon as it starts to go out, we immerse the bottle in the bucket of water and wait for the sound of the bottle breaking in two. If we see that the glass resists breaking, we can repeat the process as many times as we want, but always placing the thread in the same spot. When we succeed in dividing the bottle in two, all that’s left to do is sand down any imperfections that may have appeared using coarse sandpaper. The procedure is very simple and can even be a family activity; however, it is important to note that despite this, the materials can be dangerous for small children, so it is advisable to do this with ages 12 and older. There are many materials to make different things for the home, and if you want a small change in the house at a low cost, you might want to try other methods. If you have a plain window without details and want to decorate it without blocking natural light, this project is for you. It involves a simple paper curtain, made with papers of different weights that give movement and texture to create a curtain effect. This simple and quick craft will give a different touch to any window in your home. Choose the colors according to the room you are decorating. Materials: Paper of different thicknesses and weights in the chosen color range (available at art supply stores) Scissors Thick thread or string Curtain hooks Cut squares from the different papers, with a coherent color range to complement the decor. The simplest way is to choose one color and select papers in different shades of that color. The number of cuts needed will depend on the length and width of the curtain you are making; hence also on the window. Thread the squares together with thick thread or string. There should be regulated spaces to make a row as long as the window and tie knots at the top and bottom of each square to secure them. Finally, hang each row from a hook and then from a rod, both for curtains, at regular intervals, forming the curtain.
