Using colors well in clothing is an essential tool for looking good. They can make you look younger or older, happier or sadder. Here are some tips to help you know which colors bring out the best in you.
Colors That Don't Suit You
1. When a clothing color makes you look older, it means it's a definite NO. This is noticeable when you wear a garment or accessories in a specific color and immediately your wrinkles or expression lines around your mouth, eyes, or nose become more pronounced.
2. If a color highlights your dark circles or brings out blemishes you hadn't even noticed, it's best to keep it away from your face and change.
3. There are tones that make your features look coarser, such as your nose, jaw, or cheekbones. These do not flatter you. What we want is to look more feminine, not more masculine.
Colors That Suit You
1. These are the colors that make your skin look smoother and more even, as if it were porcelain. This effect is better than any makeup, as it eliminates skin blemishes.
2. When a color makes you look younger. What could be better than having this effect without anti-aging creams?
3. It gives you a natural blush, as if you were Heidi from the prairie. With these colors, you can forget about overusing blush.
How to Test Colorimetry?
To detect these details in your skin, follow these steps:
a) Bring the garment close to your face with your hair down. Try different shades of the same color, such as bottle green, military green, lime green, olive green, etc. Not all shades, even when they are the same color, have the same undertones. Some may have a yellow base while others have a blue one.
b) Once you have the different shades, try them on like pashminas and switch them out repeatedly, noting the changes in your face.
c) You can do this at home or in the store; it doesn't matter about the lighting or location.
d) It's best to do this with little makeup because it alters the effect of the color on your skin. For example, if you have a lot of foundation on, a color that used to make you look pale may not do so now.
e) If you absolutely love a blouse but it's in a color that doesn't suit you, don't panic; you can still save it. What you should do is wear an accessory like a scarf or necklace in a color that DOES suit you to balance it out.
f) The color of your hair and makeup alters the effect of colors on your skin, so if you change your dye or wear a lot of eyeshadow, it can have a different effect than the day before.
Remember that: If a color brings out the effects of NO, it doesn't mean you can never wear it again; it just means you should keep it away from your face, like in pants, shoes, skirts, or bags. Only garments or accessories that are close to the face alter the result.
