I feel a bit sad to talk about this… but let's be honest, it happens to all of us, and I think it's very important to give you tips to solve it. When we travel, it’s very normal to get constipated for various reasons; for example, I completely change my eating schedule, and that affects my digestive system, but there are other reasons like nerves, water, climate, and even time zone changes. Although constipation is not dangerous (unless it's a very extreme case), it is very annoying, so I’m going to give you the tips that have worked for me to avoid constipation while traveling: Let fiber be your ally It is very important that before the trip, you follow a healthy diet rich in fiber. I highly recommend cereals, rice, avocado, oats, and vegetables like broccoli, Swiss chard, spinach, and artichokes. During the trip, don’t forget to bring high-fiber snacks like nuts, oatmeal cookies, and cereal bars. Drink plenty of water It’s key to stay hydrated during your trip, and this doesn’t mean drinking tons of sodas and drinks but rather water. Whenever you leave the hotel, carry a bottle of water with you, no matter if it’s not hot. I also recommend fruity infusions or teas for the evenings. Don’t skip meals I know, it’s very complicated to have a strict meal schedule while traveling, but it’s important to have 5 meals a day. If you skip a meal, your digestive system won’t work properly, and you’ll prevent your intestinal transit from activating. Exercise Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you should be sedentary. Take the opportunity to go for a walk and explore new places, or if your hotel has a gym, don’t hesitate to spend a few minutes doing some exercise. All of this will help your intestinal mobility.
