As we approach a new normal due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the authorities of Mexico City have implemented regulations that all companies and workers must follow to safeguard their health while carrying out their economic activities. Based on this, we present some tips to prevent coronavirus while working in the office. Use sanitary protection equipment It is very important that you wear a face mask, face shield, and/or safety glasses at all times, whether you are in public spaces or entering your office to work. Clean and disinfect surfaces and work tools Once you are in your workplace, remember to constantly clean and disinfect it. You should do the same with computer screens, keyboards, mice, controls, and mobile phones. Wash and disinfect your hands Just as it is important to disinfect your workspace, you must also ensure that you wash your hands and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol no less than 10 times a day, as indicated by Dr. Esteban Pérez Almeida, medical director of COPE. Maintain healthy distance You must maintain a healthy distance of at least 1.5 meters from your coworkers at all times, whether during meal times, in meetings, or in their workspaces. Use natural ventilation The recirculation of air within buildings is prohibited, so only doors and windows should be used to maintain natural ventilation. If this is impossible, the ventilation system should only operate outward. Establish movement flows within the office Signs should be placed to indicate the flow of entry and exit within the buildings, as well as waiting lines and marked seats to maintain social distancing. Install sanitary filters Sanitary filters must also be placed for symptom identification, such as designated personnel taking employees' temperatures throughout the day. Staggered work hours and days Staggered workdays and flexible hours should be organized for employees as a way to avoid crowding within the office. One suggestion is the 4×10 scheme, meaning 4 days working at the workplace and 10 days working without attending the facilities. 14-day isolation If any employee shows symptoms of contagion, they must isolate for 14 days along with their direct work team, respecting their labor rights. Remember that no measure is excessive when it comes to safeguarding your health and caring for each other, so keep these tips in mind to prevent coronavirus while working in the office.
