Don't know what to do this weekend? A family picnic is your best option, as it's a super complete plan. But for it to be perfect, there are certain things that you can't forget. First, think about what food to bring; my recommendation is to choose something light and easy to transport. You can include food that doesn't require utensils, so you can avoid carrying too much. Cheeses Don't forget to bring a wooden board, knife, and a spreader for the spreadable cheeses. Cold Cuts and Deli Meats Choose different types to please everyone, from rolled ham to sliced salami and even pâtés. Bread Better to have too much than too little; bring different types like baguettes, ciabattas, bagels, etc. Don't forget the serrated knife to make cutting easier. Fruit Place them in a basket, pre-washed at home; choose those that don’t need to be cut or peeled, the idea is to keep it simple. Beverages First, bring water to stay hydrated, some sodas, and a bottle of red wine, sparkling wine, or champagne—why not? Bring a cooler with enough ice to keep everything cold, plus glasses, cups, a bottle opener, and corkscrew. If there are coffee lovers in your family, bring a thermos with coffee made at home. Remember to bring extra cups (preferably plastic), cream, and sugar. Extras This category can include anything you can think of: condiments, dressings, jams, napkins, plates, baskets, utensils, Swiss knife, netting or mesh to cover the food, mosquito repellent, etc. For the setup: Basket You can get a traditional one or improvise with any you have at home. The important thing is to arrange everything well so that nothing gets squashed or broken. Tablecloth While it should be nice, don’t bring a new one since you never know if grass, mud, and food stains will come out completely. A tip that may help is to bring a large wooden or plastic board to place under the tablecloth, this way you’ll have a flat surface and things won’t fall. Remember that you can organize picnics for different occasions, and certain elements will depend on that. If you’re going in a romantic plan: Don’t forget to bring flowers, strawberries, macarons or chocolates, a blanket, cushions, etc. If you’re going with kids: I suggest bringing kites, balls, a board game, and of course bicycles. The food will also vary; prepare macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, chopped vegetables, and some snacks like chips or fried sweet potatoes. If you’re going with friends: Music is a must; bring wireless speakers and your mp3 player. If you want something less sophisticated to eat, you can prepare snacks like sausages with lime and chili, buttered baby potatoes, BBQ wings, or even hamburgers. Like everything in life, this requires imagination. Get inspired by the picnic image we created for you and get ready to have an amazing day.
