Chiapas Tascalate

  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa, fermented
  • 2 liters water
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder
  • 2 teaspoons achiote
  • 3 tablespoons piloncillo, or brown sugar
  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • Toast the tortillas over low heat for 10 minutes until they are completely hard. Remove from the comal, crush, and set aside.
  • Toast the pine nuts, cocoa, and cinnamon. Blend all the ingredients with water and ice.
  • Serve in jícaras or glasses and enjoy.
