  • For the dough: Mix the flour with the yeast and salt, then add the milk, condensed milk, vanilla, and egg. Work the mixture until everything is perfectly integrated, then add the sugar in 3 parts, waiting for it to fully incorporate each time. Afterward, add the butter in 3 parts, waiting for it to fully incorporate each time. You should obtain a very elastic and moist dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a greased container, add orange zest, orange blossom essence, and cover with plastic wrap. Let the pan de muerto dough rest and ferment until it doubles in size, then punch down the dough and refrigerate until very firm.
  • Once the dough is ready, cut pieces of approximately 60 grams, and set aside a bit of dough to form the bones. Roll the cut dough into balls and place them on a baking sheet, ensuring there is space between each one (about 4 cm). Add more flour to the piece of dough set aside for the bones and work it until it has a firmer texture. Then, form strips and shape the figures with your fingers.
  • Gently cover the pan de muerto with plastic wrap and let it rest and ferment until it doubles in size. To know if the dough is ready, check by gently pressing with your finger; if the dough springs back, it is ready. Bake at 175 °C for 25 minutes.
  • When you take the bread out of the oven, while it is still hot, gently brush with butter and cover with sugar. Let cool and set aside.
  • Carefully cut the pan de muerto horizontally, spread cream cheese, add Smucker’s® blackberry jam, and fresh blackberries.
