Traditional King Cake

  • Mix the yeast with the sugar and warm water, let it rest until it doubles in size.
  • Form a volcano with the flour, sugar, and prepared yeast, the eggs, milk, zest, and butter.
  • Combine all the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead it and slap it against the table until it is smooth, elastic, and does not stick to your fingers.
  • Let it rest in a warm place covered with a damp cloth until it doubles in size.

  • For the sugar dough, beat the vegetable shortening with the sugar and flour.
  • Glaze the ring with the beaten egg, divide the sugar dough into strips, and place it on the ring along with the ate.
