Mole Tamales

Mole tamales are a true delicacy, as the combination of flavors is simply irresistible. Additionally, they are prepared with banana leaves, which add a lot of flavor and make them very moist and fluffy. Dare to prepare these mole tamales step by step!

  • 1 jar Doña María® Mole
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • salt
  • 2 cups chicken, cooked and shredded
  • 250 grams lard, for the dough
  • 1 kilo masa dough, for the dough, for tamal
  • 1 tablespoon salt, for the dough
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder, for the dough

  • In a pot, add Mole Doña María® and chicken broth and heat over medium heat for about 5 minutes until fully combined. Season with a little salt and add the chicken. Mix well and cook for 3 more minutes. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, beat the lard for 5 minutes or until completely softened. Gradually add the masa while continuing to beat until incorporated. Add the salt, baking powder, and broth, and continue beating until you obtain a semi-thick and homogeneous dough.
  • Place a tablespoon of dough on each banana leaf and spread it. Add the chicken with Mole Doña María® and wrap it in the shape of a tamal; you can tie them with strips of the same banana leaf.
  • Place the mole tamales in a steamer with water and cook for 1 hour or until the dough separates from the leaf. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
