Sweet and Sour Chicken in Orange Sauce

This dish is perfect to accompany with fried rice; your guests will be amazed. It is a classic of Chinese cuisine, a dish for those who enjoy a mix of flavors as its name suggests it is a sweet and sour dish.

  • 1 kilo chicken, cut into cubes and previously seasoned
  • 1 1/2 cups cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cups orange juice
  • 12 milliliters lemon juice
  • 1/2 cups rice vinegar , or apple
  • 1/2 teaspoons ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped

  • Coat the chicken pieces in cornstarch, then in egg, and finally in flour, and fry in plenty of hot oil until golden brown. Place them on absorbent paper and set aside.
  • In a small pot, pour in the water, orange juice, lemon juice, vinegar, and soy sauce. Let it boil for 3 minutes.
  • Add the sugar, orange zest, ginger zest, and garlic, stirring well until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Gradually add the dissolved cornstarch, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Finally, coat the chicken pieces with the sauce. You can garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
