Turkey Carnitas

  • 2 cups lard
  • 1 turkey breast, 1 kg, in large pieces
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup milk
  • 30 milliliters caramel syrup
  • 1/2 onions
  • 1 clove garlic
  • herb bundle
  • salt
  • onion, finely chopped, for garnish
  • cilantro, finely chopped, for garnish
  • salsa, for serving
  • lemon , for serving

  • Melt the lard in a large pot over medium-high heat and add the smoked turkey. When it changes color, add the orange juice, milk, caramel syrup, onion, and herbs, and season with enough salt. Mix.
  • Cook for 1 hour 30 minutes on medium heat. The turkey will be ready when it turns slightly brown and tender.
  • Using tongs, cut the meat into small cubes or shred it.
  • Serve the turkey carnitas on a tortilla, garnish with onion and cilantro, and drizzle with salsa and a few drops of lime.
