Typical Meatballs

To remember grandma's seasoning, prepare this traditional meatball recipe.

  • 4 tomatoes, for the sauce
  • 1 cup tomato purée, for the sauce
  • 2 chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, for the sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, for the sauce
  • 1/4 onions, for the sauce
  • salt , for the sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil , for the sauce
  • 1/4 cups water, for the sauce
  • 1 kilo ground beef, for the meatballs
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 egg, for the meatballs
  • 1 pinch salt , for the meatballs
  • 1 pinch black pepper, for the meatballs
  • 3 tablespoons precooked rice, for the meatballs
  • 3 tablespoons cilantro, chopped, for the meatballs
  • 1/2 cups breadcrumbs, for the meatballs
  • 2 tablespoons water, for the meatballs

  • Blend tomatoes, tomato puree, garlic, white onion, salt, pepper, chipotle peppers in adobo, and water.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add vegetable oil and sauté the sauce, let it cook for 10 minutes, adjust the seasoning.
  • Blend the egg, salt, pepper, rice, onion, cilantro, breadcrumbs, water, oil, and garlic.
  • In a bowl, add ground meat and pour in the previously blended mixture. Form the meatballs with your hands. If you prefer, you can fill some with hard-boiled egg.
  • Add the meatballs to the tomato sauce and let them cook for 30 more minutes, adjust the seasoning.
  • Serve in a deep plate with plenty of tomato sauce.
