Almond Turron for Christmas

Turron is an almond and egg sweet typically enjoyed during the Christmas season.

  • 3 cups almonds, peeled and finely ground
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cups water

  • Boil 1/2 cup of water with sugar over medium heat until you obtain a slightly thick mixture (approximately 10 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and quickly stir in the honey.
  • Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then gradually add the ground almonds and sugar syrup until well combined.
  • Transfer the entire mixture to a pot and cook the turron over low heat for approximately 15 minutes or until the bottom of the pot is visible when stirring.
  • Line a mold with wax paper and pour the turron into it. Let it cool, and your sweets are ready.
  • The turron can serve as a dessert or a companion to hot beverages like rompope, cider, or punch.
