Apple Crisp

This delicious apple dessert topped with a crunchy oat crust is very rich and goes well with vanilla ice cream.

  • 4 apples, large (for the filling)
  • 1/4 cups sugar, for the filling
  • 1 lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons flour, for the filling
  • 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon, for the filling
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/4 cups oats
  • 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, into pieces
  • vanilla ice cream, to accompany

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and position the rack in the lower third of the oven.
  • Peel the apples and slice them thinly.
  • Place the apples in a deep bowl and mix with the filling sugar, lemon juice, filling flour, and cinnamon.
  • Place the apple mixture in a rectangular baking dish and set aside.
  • In another deep bowl, mix the nuts, flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. With your hands, work the dough and gradually add the butter.
  • Cover the apples with the floury dough and bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden. Remove from the oven.
