Buñuelos in air fryer

  • 1 1/2 cups flour , for the dough
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil , for the dough
  • 1 teaspoon salt , for the dough
  • 1 tablespoon sugar , for the dough
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence, for the dough
  • 1/2 cups water, for the dough
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder, for the dough
  • 1 piloncillo , for the syrup
  • 1/2 cups water, for the syrup
  • 1 cinnamon stick, for the syrup
  • 1 star anise pod, for the syrup
  • 2 guavas, for the syrup

  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the buñuelos and knead for 15 minutes until you have a homogeneous and firm dough. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  • For the piloncillo syrup, in a small pot over medium heat, heat the water with the piloncillo, add the cinnamon and anise, the guava, and cook for 15 minutes until it becomes a syrup.
  • Take a portion of dough and on a floured surface, roll it out with a rolling pin until it is 3 mm thick and 15 cm in diameter. Repeat until the dough is finished. (It should look like a tortilla)
  • Fry in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 150°C or until crispy. You can spray the buñuelo with a bit of vegetable oil or butter spray. Serve accompanied by the syrup.
