Sift the flour together with the baking powder and set aside.
Beat the eggs at high speed and gradually add the sugar in a rain-like fashion until the mixture doubles in volume and turns white.
While still beating, incorporate the vanilla, the oil, and finally the milk. These last ingredients should be added in a thin stream and gradually to avoid losing volume in the preparation. Add the orange zest before finishing beating.
Add the already sifted flour with the baking powder, incorporating it in two batches or if necessary in three or four, to avoid leaving small lumps in the preparation. Mix gently with a spatula or folding tool.
Pour the mixture into a previously greased and floured baking pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a knife or skewer inserted comes out clean and dry.
