Charoset

Try this delicious and traditional charoset, made with apple, dates, raisins, walnuts, sweet wine, and cinnamon. It is a traditional food for the Jewish holiday of Passover, prepared in various ways according to each family's tradition. Here we provide an easy and delicious version.

  • 1 liter water
  • 1/2 cups pitted dates, in halves
  • 1/4 cups raisins
  • 2 red apples
  • 1/2 cups lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon wine, Kosher
  • 1/4 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • matzo, to accompany

  • In a bowl, soak the dates and raisins in water for 2 hours and strain.
  • On a cutting board, peel and dice the apples into small cubes.
  • In a pot with water, cook the apples with lemon juice and orange juice for about 30 minutes. Add the dates, raisins, and cook until it has a puree consistency. Cool.
  • Place the previous mixture in a bowl and mix with the kosher wine and walnuts, refrigerate until serving.
  • Spread on a matzah and sprinkle with shredded coconut if desired.
