Chocolate Filled Tamales

Because we love tamales, we now add our favorite ingredient, dark chocolate. Try these fluffy tamales with pieces of walnut and a rich buttery flavor. They are absolutely delicious!

  • 4 cups water, hot
  • 20 corn husks
  • 2 cups butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 8 cups masa mix for tamales
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon REXAL® baking powder
  • 1/2 cups cow's milk
  • 2 cups walnuts, finely chopped
  • 300 grams bittersweet chocolate, chopped

  • In a bowl, soak the corn leaves in hot water for 15 minutes or until softened. Set aside.
  • Beat the butter with the sugar until creamy and changes color.
  • Gradually add the tamale flour, salt, Rexal® Baking Powder, milk, and walnut. Beat until fully integrated.
  • Place two tablespoons of dough on a tamale leaf and add chocolate in the center, close it.
  • Cook in a steamer for 1 hour or until cooked through.
