Preheat the oven to 160°C. Line a square baking pan, including the bottom, with parchment paper. Spray with a little vegetable oil spray.
Melt the butter in a saucepan and allow it to continue cooking, stirring occasionally until the sugar takes on a slightly brown color.
Remove from heat and stop the cooking by immediately adding the sugar, cocoa powder, salt, water, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
Let cool for 5 minutes; the mixture will still be slightly warm. Add the eggs one at a time, vigorously beating with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula after each addition.
When the mixture looks more consistent, shiny, and well combined, add the flour and stir until it has completely disappeared. Beat for 50 – 60 seconds with the wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Add the nuts. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted comes out almost clean. Remove from the oven and let cool. Pull the edges of the parchment paper to unmold and cut. Cut into squares.
