Chocolat Style Chocolate Truffles

Romance, political intrigue, and lust are the ingredients of the excellent movie Chocolat, starring the brilliant Juliette Binoche and the charismatic Johnny Depp. And just like in the movie, these small and delicious dark chocolate truffles will give you a taste of the delightful pleasures life has to offer.

  • 16 tablespoons unsalted butter, (approximately 240 grams) at room temperature
  • 1/2 cups icing sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 60 grams bittersweet chocolate, melted
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons espresso coffee, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 2 1/2 cups oats
  • 1 cup shredded coconut

  • Combine the butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Use a hand mixer to beat on medium speed until the mixture turns pale and fluffy (between 1 and 2 minutes).
  • Add the melted chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, and vanilla. Continue beating until well combined, about 1 more minute.
  • Place the oats in a food processor until crushed, about 5 pulses or 10 seconds.
  • Incorporate the oats into the chocolate and butter mixture, stir well; refrigerate until the mixture cools, about 1 hour.
  • Divide the chocolate mixture into 36 portions using a medium spoon; form balls and roll each in a plate with shredded coconut.
  • Place the truffles on a tray and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
