Start by mixing the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a pot. Heat over medium until the sugar has melted.
Add the flour, spices, and salt to the pot, mix, and remove from heat.
Add the baking powder and half of the spices. Mix well.
Add the egg and the other half of the spices, and mix until a smooth dough is obtained.
Place the dough on a sheet of aluminum foil or wax paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using.
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Prepare a baking sheet with vegetable spray.
Take the dough and divide it in two. With a rolling pin, flatten the first half on a surface with a little flour to prevent sticking.
With a star-shaped and/or tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out the cookies. Place the cookies on the baking sheet with space between them. Repeat with the remaining dough.
Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes or until golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool and harden.
To decorate the cookies, mix the powdered sugar with lemon juice and water. Use this icing to attach two cookies with a ribbon in between so they can be hung or to decorate the cookies.
