  • Start by mixing the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a pot. Heat over medium until the sugar has melted.
  • Add the flour, spices, and salt to the pot, mix, and remove from heat.
  • Add the baking powder and half of the spices. Mix well.
  • Add the egg and the other half of the spices, and mix until a smooth dough is obtained.
  • Place the dough on a sheet of aluminum foil or wax paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using.
  • Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Prepare a baking sheet with vegetable spray.
  • Take the dough and divide it in two. With a rolling pin, flatten the first half on a surface with a little flour to prevent sticking.
  • With a star-shaped and/or tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out the cookies. Place the cookies on the baking sheet with space between them. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  • Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes or until golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool and harden.
  • To decorate the cookies, mix the powdered sugar with lemon juice and water. Use this icing to attach two cookies with a ribbon in between so they can be hung or to decorate the cookies.
