Christmas Butter Cookies

Delicious decorated butter cookies for Christmas. These cookies are easy to make, and you can cut them into any Christmas shapes you like. They are fun to decorate with your kids.

  • 2 cups wheat flour Great Value®
  • 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 stick unsalted butter Great Value®
  • 1 cup Great Value® granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 2 cups Great Value® icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon meringue powder
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • food coloring, (red and green)

  • In a deep bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt, and mix with a fork.
  • Using an electric mixer, beat the sugar and butter until the butter is creamy and there are no lumps.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and continue beating.
  • Gradually incorporate the flour mixture and knead.
  • Place the dough in a plastic bag and freeze for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Remove the dough from the freezer and roll it out, adding flour to the dough to prevent sticking to the rolling pin or surface. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the cookies and place them on the baking sheet.
  • Bake the cookies until they are lightly golden, 10-15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  • Mix the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and a little water to obtain the icing.
  • Divide onto plates and color. Decorate the cookies with icing and Christmas sprinkles.
