Chocolate Cookies with Royal Icing

Chocolate cookies with royal icing are the perfect dessert to show how much you love that special person. They are delicious chocolate cookies beautifully decorated, perfect for Valentine's Day.

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, (125 g)
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour, (230 g)
  • 1/4 cups cocoa, (20 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 1 egg white, for the royal icing
  • 1 1/3 cups icing sugar, (200 g) for the royal icing
  • 1 lime, for the royal icing
  • red food coloring, amount needed, for the royal icing

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • For the chocolate cookies with royal icing: cream the butter in the mixer at medium speed. Add the egg, vanilla, flour, and cocoa. Mix for 1 minute.
  • Cut a sheet of non-stick plastic, place the mixture you whipped and wrap it. Store this in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the dough from the refrigerator, take off the plastic, and knead a little.
  • Sprinkle flour on the table and on the dough, and roll out the dough with a rolling pin, aiming for a thickness of 1 centimeter.
  • Shape the cookies with your cutter.
  • Place the freshly cut cookies on a baking sheet with a silicone mat.
  • Bake for approximately 10 minutes. After the recommended time, remove them from the oven and take them off the baking sheet to cool.
  • For the royal icing: mix the powdered sugar with the egg white perfectly and add lemon juice.
  • Divide the mixture into two glass containers. To one part, add a few drops of color and stir.
  • Pour the colored royal icing into a wax paper cone.
  • Decorate the cookie, starting with the outline, and fill it completely; use a toothpick to help fill the cookie for better results.
  • In another cone, add royal icing of a different color and put some dots on the previous mixture. With the help of a toothpick, pull the dots to form a heart.
  • Let the royal icing dry for 10 minutes.
