Cream the shortening well, then add sugar, egg, vanilla, and salt. Continue creaming and then add flour and baking powder. If needed, add water. Knead and shape the figures you want. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
Once cooled, decorate to your liking. I used an egg white, powdered sugar, and a few drops of lemon. Once you form the meringue, color it with your desired food coloring.
