Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt; sift with a strainer and set aside.
Beat the butter, shortening, and sugar until smooth. Add the egg, vanilla, and sour cream. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture and continue kneading.
Place some of the dough on a floured surface and roll out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch, cut into the desired shape, and place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
You can decorate with icing or cream cheese frosting in your choice of colors.
