Shortbread with Orange Zest

This orange zest shortbread recipe is exquisite, traditionally Mexican, and very easy to make. It is a cookie that cannot be missing in any Mexican home. It is a very good way to pamper the family. Prepare yours.

  • 400 grams vegetable shortening, cut into cubes
  • 100 grams lard
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 kilo wheat flour, sifted
  • 3 grams salt
  • 1 orange, only the zest
  • granulated sugar, for dusting

  • Cream the fats in the mixer, add the sugar, and beat until you obtain a smooth and fluffy mixture.
  • Add the eggs one by one without stopping beating.
  • Gradually add the flour, salt, baking powder, and orange zest without stopping to beat.
  • Cover the dough with cling film and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Lightly flour the work surface and roll out the dough. Cut the cookies and place them on baking sheets.
  • Bake the shortbreads for approximately 12 minutes or until they are lightly golden. Let cool and dust with sugar.
