Flag Cookies

If you are a fan of cookies, these delicious flag cookies are for you. Crunchy and with a delightful buttery flavor, perfect for breakfast paired with a nice glass of milk. For the World Cup or the patriotic month, they are an excellent option as they are shaped like the flag of Mexico.

  • 1 stick butter, (90 g)
  • 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • green food coloring
  • red food coloring
  • 15 chocolate chips

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • With the help of a mixer, cream the butter, shortening, and powdered sugar.
  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
  • Gradually add the salt and flour, beat until you have a homogeneous dough.
  • Divide the dough into three bowls, add green food coloring to one and red food coloring to another.
  • Shape the three doughs into rectangles, stick them together with egg yolk, and wrap with cling film, freeze for 10 minutes.
  • Cut the cookies and place them on a previously floured and greased baking sheet. Place a chocolate chip in the center to simulate the shield.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Cool and enjoy.
