In a large pot, place the butter, sugar, chocolate, brandy, vanilla, dried fruits, and zest. Heat over medium heat until everything has melted. Remove from heat.
Preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius.
Prepare a rectangular loaf pan or a round mold with cooking spray.
In a deep bowl, mix the flour, almond, spices (cinnamon and ginger), and cocoa. Add the eggs and gradually incorporate the mixture heated in the pot. Mix well.
Pour the mixture into the mold and bake for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from the oven.
Allow the cake to cool and unmold.
With a rolling pin, flatten the marzipan on a floured surface until it covers the cake and place it on top of the cake.
