Christmas Sweet Bread with Dried Fruit

This delicious Christmas sweet bread is an excellent option if you love dried fruits. You can enjoy this rich bread with a warm cup of milk, coffee, or chocolate.

  • 50 grams yeast, fresh
  • 125 grams lard
  • 175 grams sugar
  • 1 lemon , only the zest
  • 1 orange, only the zest
  • 1 tablespoon liquid vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon cognac
  • 1 tablespoon almond essence
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cups cow's milk
  • 750 grams flour
  • 500 grams dried fruit, and glazed

  • Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it rest.
  • In a bowl, mix the butter with the sugar until it forms a paste.
  • Add the lemon zest, orange zest, vanilla extract, almond extract, cognac, milk, and eggs. Mix well.
  • Add the yeast and flour until the dough no longer sticks to the walls of the bowl.
  • Knead well and let it rest overnight, or from morning until afternoon, keeping the bowl covered. With the precaution of leaving it in a large container because it rises a lot. Almost triple its size.
  • Knead again and add the dried fruits.
  • Divide into two loaves and place in molds, brush with an egg, and make a cross-cut. Let rise for 1 more hour.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
