Hanukkah Cookies

Sugar cookies for the Hanukkah celebration. Kids love them, and they are very easy to make.

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon meringue powder
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • blue food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons cow's milk

  • Beat the room temperature butter with the sugar.
  • Add the egg, vanilla, and milk and beat.
  • Mix the flour with the salt and baking powder. Add to the butter mixture and knead until a dough that doesn't stick to your fingers is formed.
  • Place the dough on wax paper and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Prepare two trays with wax paper and cooking spray, and preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and make cookies using cookie cutters in the shapes of Star of David, menorahs, etc. Place the cookies on the trays.
  • Bake the cookies for 10 minutes or until they are slightly golden. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool.
  • Make the icing by mixing powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water. Add food coloring to half of the icing to have white and blue icing.
  • Decorate the cookies with the white and blue icings.
