1 1/4 cups butter, at room temperature
1 cup icing sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1/4 cups maraschino cherries, for decoration

Preheat the oven to 170°C.
In a mixer, cream the butter with the sugar for 3 minutes.
Add the vanilla and continue beating.
Alternate the eggs with the flour, starting and ending with the flour. Beat until well combined.
Place the mixture in a piping bag with a star tip and shape the cookies.
Cut the cherries into eighths and decorate the cookies by placing a piece in the center.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes and then bake for 15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Cool and serve.
