This chayote dessert with chocolate sauce is very popular in Venezuela; it is something different but its flavor will win you over. The chayotes have a slightly sweet taste that pairs very well with semi-sweet chocolate. Give it a try.
Heat the water and sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the chayotes; partially cover the saucepan. Cook the chayotes for 30 minutes or until tender, stirring every 10 minutes. Remove the chayotes from the liquid; discard the liquid. Cut them in half lengthwise.
Place the chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl. Add the milk. Heat in the microwave for 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute. Stir the chocolate until completely melted.
Place 1/4 cup of pineapple on each of eight plates; sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of coconut on top. Cover this with the halved chayotes; drizzle the desserts evenly with the chocolate sauce. Sprinkle with the pecans.
