Red Wine Pears without Sugar

  • 4 pears, Anjou
  • 1 1/2 cups red wine
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 3 allspice berries,
  • 2 cloves,
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1/3 cups orange peels
  • 1 stick cinnamon

  • On a cutting board, peel the pears using a potato peeler; once peeled, you can keep them in water until use.
  • In a pot, pour and mix the red wine with water, allspice, cloves, star anise, and orange peel. Add the peeled pears and the cinnamon stick, cover, and cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Cut the pears in half. Serve them, pour the spiced red wine, and garnish with star anise, cinnamon, and mint leaves.
