Use this recipe to decorate your sugar cookies. It will result in a smooth, glossy, and dry icing, allowing you to decorate cookies like the store-bought ones.
Add the powdered sugar and mix until well combined.
Divide the icing among bowls to add the desired food coloring.
Add drops of food coloring to the different bowls of icing and mix well. (Be careful as food colorings can stain quickly, add drop by drop).
Put the colored icing in a small round piping tip and first outline the cookies. Then fill the center of the cookie. You will see the icing spread and become smooth. (If it's too thick, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of water).
To decorate edges or other highlighted elements, you can thicken the icing by adding powdered sugar. You can place this icing in another piping bag with a finer tip to make details.
