Tamarind balls are a delicious traditional sweet from Guatemala to share with family.

  • 2 pounds tamarind pods
  • 3 pounds sugar
  • vegetable colorings, red

  • Preferably, the tamarind should not be peeled, but with the skin on. Remove the skin and then proceed to separate the tamarind until only the seed remains.
  • In a bowl, add all the tamarind paste and sugar, mix well. Once you have a consistent and well-mixed dough, add red food coloring and shape into balls of approximately 1 inch, roll in sugar, and let rest for about 5 minutes.
