Traditional Sugar Gorditas

Try these delicious sugar gorditas, they are easy and delightful. The flavor that the griddle gives them is unique and no one will be able to resist trying them.

  • 2 cups flour, all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoons vanilla essence
  • 1/4 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 San Juan® egg
  • 1/4 cups milk, warm
  • jam, for serving

  • Mix the previously sifted flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until fully combined.
  • Add the vegetable shortening using your hands, gradually incorporate the ingredients until forming a sandy mixture. Then add the Huevo San Juan® and slowly pour in the warm milk while mixing for at least 10 minutes or until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough. Wrap it in cling film and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Once the dough has rested, form balls of approximately 40 grams, make sure to keep them covered with plastic to prevent the dough from drying out.
  • Heat a griddle over high heat, once the griddle is sufficiently hot, lower the temperature. Shape your gorditas using a tortilla press. Place the gorditas directly on the griddle and cook each side for 4 minutes, you will notice how the gordita begins to brown gradually, make sure to monitor the temperature. Repeat until the dough is finished.
  • Let it cool and serve with flavored jam.
