Jalapeño Mummies

Jalapeño mummies are a delicious snack that the little ones at home will love. They are jalapeño poppers covered in puff pastry, with terrifying black olive eyes and hot sauce. Perfect for Halloween and Day of the Dead.

  • 10 cuaresmeño chiles, large size
  • 2 cups Chihuahua cheese, shredded
  • 300 grams puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup black olives, slice
  • Sriracha sauce, to taste

  • Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  • Cut the cuaresmeño chiles in half. Use a spoon to remove the seeds.
  • Stuff the chiles with the shredded cheese.
  • Cut strips of puff pastry 0.5 centimeters by 20 centimeters long. Wrap the chiles with these strips to simulate that the puff pastry is bandages.
  • Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water.
  • Place the jalapeños on a baking tray. Brush the jalapeños with the beaten egg.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden.
  • Once you take them out of the oven, place 2 slices of olives on each chile as eyes. Pour a dot of hot sauce into the hole of the olive.
