Melted Cheese Sandwich with Mushrooms and Caramelized Onion

We present to you a spectacular recipe, the delicious sandwich with melted cheese, mushrooms, and caramelized onion. It is a simple recipe with a very rich flavor. You can serve it as a snack or as breakfast or dinner.

  • 12 slices bread, Oroweat® Whole Wheat
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cups button mushrooms
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cups white vinegar
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cups Parmesan cheese, grated

  • Cut the mushrooms into quarters.
  • Heat a skillet and add the butter and olive oil.
  • Sauté the onion and cook for 15 minutes until caramelized, set aside.
  • In another skillet, sauté the garlic and add the mushrooms and thyme.
  • Add the white wine and cook for about 10 minutes until the liquid in the skillet evaporates.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the finely chopped parsley and mix until everything is well incorporated. Integrate the cheeses into the skillet with the mushrooms.
  • Spread a little butter on the Oroweat® Whole Wheat Bread.
  • Place some of the filling and caramelized onions in each bread and close the sandwich.
  • Add more butter on the outside of the Oroweat® Whole Wheat Bread and bake the sandwiches at 180°C for 3 minutes until the cheese melts and the bread toasts.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool for 3 minutes and serve.
