Chili with Beans

Although seasoned, this Tex-Mex dish is ideal as a snack at any gathering. Serve it with tortilla chips or your favorite fries.

  • 150 cheddar cheese
  • baguettes, sliced or toasted
  • 2 cups black beans, whole, cooked
  • 1/2 kilos ground meat
  • 1/4 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 can tomato
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • olive oil
  • cumin powder
  • oregano powder
  • paprika, in powder
  • cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper

  • Grate the cheese and set aside.
  • Chop the onion and garlic finely.
  • Mash the canned tomatoes with a fork until they become purée; it's okay if there are whole pieces, as this will add texture to the dish.
  • Heat a pot with olive oil, sauté the onion and garlic. Add the ground meat, breaking it apart well with a wooden spoon to avoid forming meatballs. Season with black pepper, cayenne pepper, cumin, oregano, salt, and paprika.
  • After 5 minutes, the meat should turn brown; at that moment, add the crushed tomatoes along with their juice.
  • Cook on low heat for 10 minutes, add 1 cup of water. Adjust the seasoning and add the beans with a bit of their cooking broth.
  • Let cook for 5 more minutes. Serve immediately mounted on pieces of bread, toasts, or crackers with a bit of grated cheese on top.
