  • 1 onion, large
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cow's milk
  • 3/4 cups breadcrumbs, coarse or panko
  • 1/2 liters vegetable oil
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste

  • Heat the oil to 176° C.
  • Slice the onion into 1-centimeter rings. Separate the rings from each slice.
  • Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Coat the onion rings in this mixture.
  • In another bowl, mix egg and milk, and whisk.
  • Coat the onion rings covered with flour in the egg mixture, placing them on a rack to drain the excess egg.
  • Place the coarse breadcrumbs in a bowl and coat the rings until fully covered.
  • Heat the oil and fry the onion for 1 ½ minutes on each side. Once fried, place them in a strainer to remove excess oil and then on absorbent paper. Sprinkle with salt.
