Gouda Cheese Tequeños

Enjoy this traditional Venezuelan dish, typical for gatherings and parties. Tequeños are usually served as appetizers at parties and gatherings, as well as for breakfast, fast food, or snacks. They are also known as cheese rolls. You'll love them!

  • 2 1/2 cups flour, for the dough
  • 1 tablespoon salt, for the dough
  • 1 egg, for the dough
  • 1/4 cups butter, for the dough
  • 1/4 cups water, for the dough
  • 250 grams Gouda cheese
  • vegetable oil, for frying

  • In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and, using your hands, knead until you achieve a smooth and homogeneous consistency. Place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for 15 minutes.
  • Cut the gouda cheese into strips 1 cm wide and 5 cm long, and set aside.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 3 mm thick and cut long strips of 30 cm in length and 2 cm in width. Set aside.
  • Wrap the strips of cheese with the strips of dough, as shown in the video. Set aside.
  • Heat oil over medium heat and fry for 4 minutes. Place on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
  • Serve with garlic sauce.
