Picadillo and Cheese Sandwich

These delicious open-faced picadillo and cheese sandwiches are tasty and loved by kids.

  • 250 grams ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups onion, finely chopped
  • 2 1/3 tablespoons chile powder
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups canned beans
  • 1/2 cups tomato, in pieces (canned)
  • 1/4 cups fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 4 slices artisan bread roll, or ciabatta
  • 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, or grated manchengo

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 5 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef, chili, and garlic to the skillet and cook for 5-8 minutes or until the meat is well cooked.
  • Add the beans and tomato and cook for 15 minutes over low heat. Season with cilantro, salt, and pepper.
  • Toast the slices of bread and place the meat and cheese on top. The cheese will melt from the heat of the meat.
