Mozzarella Cheese with Quick Fig Jam on Toasts

Burrata is an extra-creamy ‘mozzarella’ that deserves to be the star of the dish, but it is recommended to eat it fresh to take advantage of its properties. To accompany, only crunchy bread, roasted tomatoes, and some basil leaves are needed, or this simple jam.

  • For the jam, pour the sugar, a pinch of salt, and the star anise into a skillet. Heat over medium until the sugar begins to caramelize. Add the figs and stir.
  • Lower the heat and add a tablespoon of vinegar. Simmer the jam, stirring until it thickens and the figs almost break down. Remove the star anise.
  • Mash the figs with a potato masher, remove the jam from the heat, and let it cool.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the toasts. Drizzle the ciabatta slices with a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place them on the grill and toast on both sides for 1 to 2 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Place the burrata in a bowl, season with salt and pepper, drizzle with a little oil, and sprinkle with lemon zest. Spread the fig jam on the toasts and serve them alongside the burrata.
