Battered Fish

These battered fish are the homemade version of those found at market stalls or street vendors in Mexico City. Prepare them for a weekend craving and serve with various side dishes, such as rice, coleslaw, or lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.   • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • pepper
  • sparkling water
  • 2 cups fish, in strips
  • 1/4 cups lime juice
  • salt
  • vegetable oil
  • hot sauce, for serving
  • potatoes, sautéed, for serving

  • In a bowl, mix the wheat flour with baking powder, salt, pepper, and mineral water until achieving a semi-thick consistency. Set aside.
  • Marinate the fish with lemon juice and salt for 10 minutes. Then dip the fish in the flour mixture.
  • Heat a pot with enough oil and fry the fish for approximately 10 minutes. Serve with fried potatoes on the side and spicy sauce; pair with dressings and enjoy.
