Battered Fish

These fish are favorites of many; we find them at street stalls in Mexico City, accompanied by various side dishes. We bring you our version of battered fish.

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • sparkling water
  • 4 fish fillets, sierra
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cups pink shrimp
  • 2 cups cabbage, cut into strips
  • 1 avocado, in slices
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 4 limes
  • hot sauce
  • mayonnaise

  • In a bowl, mix the flour with baking powder, baking soda, salt, and pepper, stirring until a homogeneous mixture forms.
  • Heat a pot over medium heat with the oil.
  • Dip the fish in the flour mixture, fry in oil, and place on absorbent paper to remove excess grease.
  • Serve the fish fillets, add shrimp, cabbage, avocado, tomato, and accompany with hot sauce, lemon, and mayonnaise.
