Tlacoyos with Shrimp in Adobo Sauce

If typical Mexican snacks are your favorites, this recipe for Shrimp Tlacoyos will become the next dish at your next family meal. The difference with these homemade tlacoyos is that you can serve them with marinated shrimp on top and garnish with onions, cilantro, cream, cheese, avocado and green sauce. Something important to consider when you make this recipe for tlacoyos, is to hydrate or moisten the corn masa dough well so that it does not crack or break apart and also, keep the dough covered so that it does not dry out.

  • In a bowl, mix the corn dough with the water, the lard, the salt and knead until completely integrated. Cover and set aside.
  • For the marinade, blend the onion with chilies, sugar, pepper, vinegar, orange juice, tomato, water, salt, garlic and cinnamon until you get a smooth mixture. Marinate the shrimp with this mixture for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • In a frying pan with oil at medium temperature cook the shrimp until they are done, adjust the seasoning and set aside.
  • In a frying pan with oil, cook the onion, add the red peppers in vinegar, the beans, the salt, the pepper, the cumin and cool slightly.
  • With your hands, form balls from the corn masa dough, flatten it out in an oval shape, fill with a spoonful of beans and then fold to close. Give it the shape of tlacoyo, cook on a griddle over medium heat until golden brown.
  • Serve the tlacoyos with the shrimp, decorate with the sour cream, onion, cilantro, avocado, fresh cheese and accompany with green sauce. Serve.
