Hibiscus Flower Tostadas

Because taking care of yourself has never been so easy, prepare this original and healthy recipe for hibiscus flower tostadas, made with baked corn tostadas and a delicious sauté of hibiscus with Nutrioli® Spray. They are a very economical and healthy option that your family will love.

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups hibiscus flower
  • 1/4 onions, for the sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, for the sauce
  • 4 tomatoes, for the sauce
  • 3 chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, for the sauce

  • 1/2 onions, sliced
  • salt and pepper
  • 12 corn tortillas

  • 1 cup refried beans, for serving
  • sour cream, light, for serving
  • panela cheese, crumbled, for serving

  • green salsa, for serving

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Heat the water, add the hibiscus flower, and cook for 15 minutes. Strain, let cool, and set aside.
  • Blend the onion, garlic, tomatoes, and chipotle pepper.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and spray a shot of Nutrioli® Spray, cook the sliced onion until soft and translucent, pour in the chipotle sauce, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 20 minutes or until thickened.
  • Add the hibiscus flower and cook for another 10 minutes over medium heat, season with salt and pepper.
  • Place the tortillas on a tray, spray with Nutrioli® Spray on both sides, and bake for 10 minutes, until toasted. Let cool and set aside.
  • Place beans, hibiscus tinga, cream, cheese, avocado on a tostada and serve with sauce.
