New York City Hot Dog

A classic snack that can be seen all over the Big Apple, this New York City hot dog is all you need for your next game night! A simple yet flavor-packed hot dog topped with caramelized shallots, fried bacon chunks, and a homemade spicy dressing, these New York City hot dogs are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, for the caramelized shallots
  • 2 cups shallot, cut into thin strips, for the caramelized shallots 
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, for the caramelized shallots

  • 1/2 cups mustard, for the dressing
  • 1 tablespoon chile flakes, for the dressing
  • 3 tablespoons paprika, for the dressing
  • 1/4 cups olive oil, for the dressing

  • 6 hot dog buns, hot
  • 1/2 cups bacon, fried, cut into small cubes

  • For the caramelized shallots: In a skillet over low heat, heat olive oil and cook shallots for some minutes stirring constantly until brown. Add brown sugar, cook for some more minutes until shallots turn crispy, stirring constantly. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Set aside.
  • For the dressing: In a bowl, mix mustard, chile flakes, paprika, and olive oil until a red homogenous mixture is obtained. Place in a squeeze bottle and set aside.
  • Brush sausages with olive oil. In a hot skillet, roast evenly.
  • For assembling the New York City hot dogs: Slice hot dog buns in half without cutting all the way through. Place roast sausage. Top with caramelized shallots, fried bacon, spicy dressing, and mayonnaise. Serve New York City hot dog with onion rings.
